Who is your city? My husband Chris and I took The Find Your Best Place Quiz last night. It informed us that San Luis Obispo (SLO) in California is our city. The quiz didn’t know we spent time in SLO while living in nearby Pismo Beach for a month.
When we decided it was time to move back to North America from Portugal, we looked at places in SLO. Will our move to the Minneapolis-St. Paul area be a mistake? If you take the quiz, please let me know which city is your city.
I learned about the quiz while reading Who’s Your City by Richard Florida, which was published in 2009. Florida suggests that there are three big choices we make in life that determine our happiness: choosing a spouse, choosing a career, and choosing where to live. I wish I had read Florida’s book before Chris and I set out on our 12 Cities in 12 Months Adventure.
To be fair, if I had, it might’ve deepened the divide between my desires and Chris’s. When we set out, I wanted to find our ideal place to live. Chris wanted to keep moving and build a following for our YouTube channel. He wasn’t interested in settling down until our move to Porto, Portugal.
Meanwhile, in British Columbia…
Chris and I spent time in Peachland this week. It’s about a fifteen-minute drive from where we’ve been staying in West Kelowna. On our first trip there, we checked out Hardy Falls. The trail to Hardy Falls is short and easygoing. After, we tried some wines and dined on a charcuterie board at Hainle Winery. It was the end of the day, and we were the only ones there, so the sommelier took us on a short tour of the vineyard after we finished the tasting.
The next day, we returned to Peachland to hike the Pincushion Mountain Trail. It’s a fun and challenging trail with some scrambles and incredible views. Hike Pincushion Mountain Trail With Us! It’s gorgeous! - YouTube The next day was Monday. For us, Mondays mean Monday Night Date Night. We returned to Peachland to dine at Gasthaus on the Lake, a German restaurant that we’ll gladly revisit again – everything about it was lovely.
What’s Happening on the Chris + Melissa Blog?
My most-read post on the Chris + Melissa blog this past week was Hotel Review: Swan Reserve at Walt Disney World Swan & Dolphin Resort. People must be gearing up for their Disney vacations. I know I am. In just a month and a half, my granddaughter and I will be having our Disney World girls' weekend.
I just finished my series of posts about Edinburgh, Scotland:
Hotel Review: Hilton Edinburgh Carlton in Edinburgh, Scotland
Should You Try The Scotch Whisky Experience’s Tasting Tales?
This coming week, I’ll coordinate orders for our new home in St. Louis Park. We’ll be on our way to it in just eight days. After seventeen moves in two years, I’ve developed a bit of a system. Maybe I’ll write about it sometime.
I’ll also, as always, be writing. Next (writing) stop, Paris.
Until next time, friends…
Pack with care and travel well,
Melissa
